He added: 'It felt as though the world around us had collapsed, like someone had stolen the air from our lungs.'Īnd referring to Parbat, Mr Watling's statement went on: 'Every tear, every sob is a consequence of his actions.'Īfter the case, the family of Miss Watling released a statement saying her two children had been 'deprived of the right to be raised by their mother'. Part of a victim impact statement was read on behalf of Miss Watling's father David in which he described the impact of her death as 'like a shard of glass through our hearts'. The 36-year-old was jailed for seven years for causing his girlfriend's death by dangerous driving Richard Cherrill, defending, said Parbat was 'in denial' about the crash but wanted a letter to be passed to Miss Watling's family expressing his sorrow. 'I make it clear that the blame for this tragic accident is entirely yours.'ĭescribing it as a 'gross avoidable distraction', he added: 'You and no-one else was responsible for this road traffic accident and Lisa's death.'
Mr Griffiths told him: 'I'm satisfied that the cause of the accident in which Lisa died was your decision to continue to drive your motor vehicle at a speed approaching but not exceeding 70mph while engaged in some form of sexual activity with your trousers partially down.
He was also ordered to pay a £120 victim surcharge.
Parbat showed no emotion as he was also disqualified from driving for seven years and told he must take an extended driving test before he is allowed to drive again. Sentencing him today, Recorder Peter Griffiths QC said Parbat was 'entirely' responsible for causing the crash on Ma'while engaged in some form of sexual activity'.
Parbat was the driver of a BMW Z3 which crashed on Crawley Avenue, between Hazelwick and Tushmore roundabouts, in the early hours of Ma(pictured) Parbat, who lives in Maidenbower, Crawley and works in his mother's clothes shop, was last month found guilty of causing death by dangerous driving. Parbat told the trial Miss Watling suffered from intracranial hypertension, and suffered from headaches and was on medication including anti-epilepsy tablets. Miss Watling was found seriously injured in just a T-shirt and braĮarlier in the evening, the couple had gone for a meal at TGI Friday's in Crawley before returning to Miss Watling's home in Langley Green.Īfter Parbat realised he had left his mobile phone at his home, the couple drove in his BMW to collect it and the crash happened as they returned to her house at 1.40am. In the aftermath of the collision, Parbat was discovered with his trousers and underwear around his ankles.
